Scripture: Isaiah 52:2 and Psalms 116:16-18
The truth is that some people don’t like you and they never will. Maybe it’s the way you comb your hair. Maybe they don’t like the color of your skin. Maybe they’re jealous because of the car you drive. Maybe they’re jealous because of your success.
Anytime you’re successful, people tend to be jealous. If you look too good, they’ll talk about you. If you make more money than them, they’ll dog you. If you sing better than them, they’ll be jealous. If your house is better than theirs, they tend to talk about you behind your back.
Critical people are those who really don’t like themselves, so they criticize others in order to build themselves up. They try and bring others down, in order to make themselves look good.
You can’t let people’s negative opinions get inside you. In the movie Lion King, Timon’ and Pumbaa sang, “Hakuna Matata.” In Swahili it means, “No worries for the rest of your life.” Worry is rooted in fear. God wants us to trust Him so much, that there is no room for worry or negativity.
